Assisi 6 officially opened its doors on Saturday, November 16, 2019 to welcome 17 formerly homeless men. It operated as a shelter during the winter months and in March 2020 converted to permanent housing, where shelter guests had the opportunity to begin renting their rooms as subsidized apartments.
The building itself used to be a rectory for the formerly Catholic parish, now owned by North City Church of Christ, and sits across the courtyard from Assisi 1, our organization's first official house that opened in December 2014. Renovation of Assisi 6 lasted for 5 months starting in late summer and involved the installation of new bedroom walls, creating openings for doors and vents, new fire safety infrastructure, and new kitchen counters and appliances.
There are many volunteer opportunities to get involved in the lives of the guests, from cooking dinners to Sunday Volunteering to providing clothing to simply spending time with the extraordinary men who now call Assisi 6 "Home." Please visit our volunteer page for more information.
